First paid Mass Effect 2 DLC next month

The first paid entry to the growing lineup of Mass Effect 2 downloadable content is set to arrive early next month for both the Xbox 360 and PC versions, Joystiq has learned.

The content, titled Kasumi’s Stolen Memory, will add a female thief to Shepard’s selection of comrades and sends players on ‘a secretive mission of recovery requiring a suave disguise and a run-in with an influential and predictably corrupt art collector’.

A “Locust” SMG, a flash-bang grenade loyalty power and a new Achievement are packed in as well.

The pricing for the hour and a half long content is still under “internal discussion” at BioWare. A release date, however, has been settled on: April 6.

Molyneux: Fable III needs to sell 5 million, Natal “wonderfully adaptive”

Peter Molyneux has set a sales goal for the studio’s upcoming Fable III; five million copies.

The target was set not for financial reasons, the Lionhead boss explained during a talk given at GDC today, but rather to see how much the numerous changes implemented in the third game — Fable III is moving away from being a more traditional RPG and is turning into a more of an action adventure title — will affect its popularity among consumers.

Most of Fable II players did not grasp even half of the game’s features, the talk revealed; reason enough for Lionhead to simplify and offer a more streamlined experience.

The Fable mastermind also chatted about Project Natal’s implementation, saying the controller-less motion controller is “wonderfully adaptive to this experience,” but uncharacteristically shied away from explaining the mysterious quote. “… it’s been a real joy to put some Natal stuff in there,” he only added.

DICE fights Modern Warfare 2’s paid DLC with free content

The next round of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 VIP content will arrive on March 30, the same day as Modern Warfare 2’s recently dated Stimulus Package, DICE has revealed.

The difference between the two: the BFBC2 DLC will heal players’ “mapathy” — as Infinity Ward calls it — free of charge.

“…these map packs are available at no extra cost, contradicting the industry standard and what our direct competitors are doing,” executive producer Karl-Magnus Troedsson said on the official Battlefield blog, clearly taking a swipe at the Infinity Ward shooter. “We’re dedicated to taking care of this product for a long time – helping you avoid “mapathy” without getting nickel-and-dimed.”

Fear not though, there’ll be plenty of nickel-and-diming in Bad Company 2’s future as well as it too will be getting its fair share of paid DLC. There will be “multiple opportunities to spend five, 10 or 15 dollars on additional content in the next six months or so,” publisher EA’s chief financial officer Eric Brown said just yesterday.

For now though, the free VIP content will transform the Arica Harbor and Laguna Presa maps to be playable in Conquest and Rush modes, respectively.

Runic Games working on Torchlight for consoles

Runic Games are looking at bringing a port well-received PC action RPG Torchlight to consoles.

Speaking to The Rumble Pack, Runic Games’ CEO Max Schaefer said, “We’re going to put some serious effort into it — pretty quick — getting Torchlight onto consoles. There’s a lot of really cool things about the console world, too, that would work well with our game. So, we are definitely going to be going in that direction.”

Unfortunately, Schaefer was tight-lipped on any further details, revealing only that his team are “talking to a million people” and that a console port is ”something we definitely want to do.”

We’re pretty excited about the prospect of a bit of loot-grabbing dungeon crawling on our consoles. The PC version was well-received and Torchlight certainly has the pedigree. Schaefer, along with brother Eric, co-designed the first two Diablos. As far as hack ‘n slashy rogue-likes go, it doesn’t get any better than that.

Split/Second on the PC will be “a limited online release”

We’ve been gearing up for Split/Second for a while now, and news of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the destructive racer hitting Europe and North America in mid-May has only got us even more excited. However, we noticed that there hasn’t been any mention of the release date for the PC version just yet.

Turns out it’s still coming but it won’t be hitting shops like its console companions.

“We will be releasing on PC at the same time but it will be a limited online release,” a Disney rep told TVGB via email today.

We’re not entirely sure what “a limited online release” means, perhaps a Steam-only release, but we’ve followed-up with Disney for clarification.
