Palm Pre: nearly half returned?
The wait for a Palm Pre here in Blighty continues. But while you’re ticking off the days until December, spare a thought for Pre fans across the pond. A new analyst report reckons as many as 40 percent of all Palm Pres sold Stateside are being sent back. Read on to see what’s going down with the Palm Pre.
The Palm Pre is undoubtedly one of the hottest gadgets of 2009. Good looking and with a dash of Apple cool, it’s bound to cause a stir when O2 unleashes it here this winter. But now Kevin Dede, an analyst for Jesup and Lamont, says 40 per cent of Pres sold have gone back to Palm.
That’s a mighty high figure. Considering 300,000 have been shifted, that’s a massive 120,000 that are back for repairs or just waiting to be sold again. The Palm Pre has suffered from keyboard issues and general hardware niggles.
However, this report should be taken with a pinch of salt. Dede is extrapolating on chatter he’s heard, but if his figures are in the right ball park, the Palm Pre is in serious trouble.
After Palm’s recent run–in with Apple over iTunes syncing with the Pre, this is the last piece of news pre-Pre owners want to be hearing.
